There's a "Inside Edge" and it's OUT.
As you all know Amazon prime videos has released new season of "Inside Edge" few days ago, In this post I will review it.
In first season we witnessed "Match Fixing" going on in PPL(PowerPlay League) and some other small events going on, and overall the series was good and worth watching.
That season really made me to push myself to watch next season.
Let's first talk about "Storyline" :-
This season opens up with the introduction of Yashvardhan Patil a.k.a Bhaisahab who is a President of ICB(Indian Cricket Board).
He is a very powerful guy and smart, then there is Arvind Vashishth who is a senior batsman and a captain, in last season was with Mumbai Mavericks but in this season he is with Haryana Hurricanes and it's owner is looking for first PPL win and Arvind wants justice for the murder of Niranjan Suri , Vayu Raghawan is the new skipper of Mavericks.
Mantra, daughter of Bhaisahab is the new co-onwer of Mavericks and Zarina is looking to grab something really big i.e "Power".
Prashant is facing problems after what he did to Devendar and is feeling guilty.
This is basically an inside story behind any Domestic Premier League and it basically focuses on Dirty game and how it affects people's life.
Now let's talk about ScreenPlay and Acting :-
Screenplay is most important thing in a web series and I think showrunners lacked here a bit.
I am not saying it was bad or anything but it wasn't fantastic, it was just OK or average.
In a web series or in any movie there's a major plot and some small plots which takes place simultaneously but should not hurt the major one and here screenplay is the key to keep that small plots separate and later on merge it with the major one.
The first few 3-4 episodes were just going on it had content to show but it wasn't engaging, they were not smooth but after that 4 episodes the series became good.
In terms of Actors, all the actors are great specially I will point Vivek Anand Oberoi, Richa Chadda and Angad Bedi.
Rest of cast was also excellent.
Characters :-
Here I will cut points of this series.
You guys wrote a good story, excellent actors but it was necessary to think about number of characters which are in light.
First there is Bhaishab, his assisstant, Zarina, Mantra, Arvind, Vayu, Home Minister, Vikrant, Prashant, Bhaisahab's rival and many more.
I think characters are too much here.
Well we can really deal with the number of characters but everyone is playing it's own game, everyone here is on it's own trip.
In some scenes we are seeing that Home minister is going to ban PPL, then someone is Doping, Fixing matches, seeking for love, Power, politics, election e.t.c.
At some points I was actually trying to remember "What this character did last??"
I creates a bit confusion to the viewers.
Having a great number of characters is not a problem but managing their scenes not properly is mistake.
And when we see any movie or web series, there's a one or two characters in that with which we connect ourselves and that creates our interest.
Like in normal movies we connect ourselves with the lead character.
Unfortunately I found no such character in this series, for example in "13 Reasons Why Season 1" we are just connected to Clay Jensen or in "The Family Man" we were connected to "Shri" played by amazing actor Manoj Bajpayee.
To connect we need a positive character but here everyone is in negative shade everyone is greedy and it is good for sometime but I really missed this thing.
There many small plots going on with major plot and one plot related to Vayu Raghawan is totally useless and pointless even when that thing ended, it made no sense.
Rest small plots are good and made sense.
Emotion for old things and relationships are shown fantastically specially by Rohini and Arvind.
And there's a surprise package in Arvind's team in mid-season, which was just excellent.
Match fixing scenes during a live match are shown brilliantly.
Cricket matches are presented naturally.
One thing I will appreciate is that showrunners had a great amount of content to show.
Conclusion :-
To conclude I would say after many cons still it's a great to watch.
Background games behind a cricket game is tough to show but these guys have presented it brilliantly, there many flaws too which I marked above but overall it works.
This year I saw many sequels like Sacred Games S2, 13 Reasons Why and Little Things, but these all failed to impress me even I posted review of Sacred Games but rest series were so bad that I really hated them they were frustrating but this sequel of "Inside Edge" is good and watchable.
Give it a shot and discover background games.
